First Sign of Spring
I saw my first Robin yesterday! I wish I would have snapped a photo. She (maybe he) was a beauty! She perched on top of the clothes line post and sat there proudly! She was plump and confident! Sitting there looking left and right and then, I felt as if she might be looking right at me sitting in my chair.
My first thought was of Granny D. When Granny was still living we had a "thing!" We would keep our eyes peeled for that first sign on Spring, that first Robin to make an appearance. Then we would call each other to say, I'm first, I saw the first Robin. I loved to be the one who made that call. It was OK coming in second, but oh, to be first was the best!
I wonder if I would have been first this year. I wonder is my visitor yesterday was sent by my Granny! I wonder, I wonder! Spring is here!
OMG! My mom and I have that same tradition and I know I will forever think of her once she's passed whenever I see my first robin. It's the best -seeing those adorable hopping birds with their beautiful red breasts!
